There's a box of chalk sitting on my desk, probably left over from last year when I helping take care of my sister's kids. Now I'm inspired to shake up this staid neighborhood with it's cookie cutter lawns and shrubs. Oh, darn...I can't draw to save my soul.

deirdre,
If the chalk's bright enough, you don't need drawing skills. :)- That's my theory anyway. I got a box of ultra pigmented chalk at Michael's art supply for $4. It makes it so much more fun!

What a beautiful drawing! I'd like to hang something like that on my wall, or make it a rug on my floor...or greet my friends with it at my doorway!

Just read that you think you don't know how to write anymore. I'm having the same problem but I certainly can't blame it on grad school. Since you are an artist, too is it perhaps that we can't juggle both sides of the brain simultaneously? When I write well I usually haven't been painting much. When I paint a lot I can't write to save myself.

Just a thought anyhow.

Your chalk drawing is absolutely magical! The colors under the sunlight beckon us into the depths of the colors to feel more, discover more. How can you bear to let the rain wash it away?

Globetrotter,
You make a good point about juggling both sides of the brain. I know I am that way also. Maybe it's just that I haven't yet accepted or come to terms with it. I keep trying to do both, art and writing, simultaneously with equal amounts of passion and quality. Maybe someday I'll actually realize that I'm expecting too much of myself. Anyway, thanks for your insight. You are so right!

As for the rain---the chicken has been walked on continuosly for several days now. The dog's tail is green from laying on it. Although it would be fun to be able to pick up the slab of concrete and take it with me (or give it to you)...alas, this is not possible. So I say: RAIN! And that way I can start a new one. ;)

Elizabeth, why thank you. :) A chicken rug on the floor would definately be interesting! heehee!

Tara Dawn, I've been hiding out in the back doing my chalk drawings so that my neighbors don't think I'm crazy (well, crazier than they already probably think I am). If I had a partner in crime I'd be willing to move on to more public sidewalks. ;)

Thanks Melba! Now I need to have kids so that I can do 'em all the time. :)-

Look at the joy your drawing brings; Anu looks positively rapturous! (Whether that's a real word or not, it should be) I'm feeling the vibe of new music and coloured chalk - summer is truly here.

How great is that??? I wish someone could come by and draw roosters all over my sidewalk...perhaps that someone will have to be me!
